I spent $47 on a round-trip to Lisbon. Here's exactly how.

Last month I flew NYC → Lisbon round-trip for $47. Not a typo.

Here's the play:

1. Error fare alerts are everything. Most people rely on Google Flights. That's fine for planning, but the real deals — the 80-90% off mistakes — come from tracking error fares in real time. Airlines misprice routes constantly. You just have to be fast.

2. Flexible dates + nearby airports = cheat codes. I wasn't locked into JFK. I was open to EWR and PHL within a 3-day window. That flexibility is what turned a $400 flight into a $47 one.

3. Book first, plan later. When an error fare drops, you have hours — sometimes minutes. Don't sit there researching hotels. Book the flight, figure out the rest later. Most airlines give you 24h free cancellation anyway.

4. Hostels aren't what you think. I stayed at a design hostel in Alfama for $18/night with a rooftop bar overlooking the Tagus. Private room. Better vibes than most hotels I've stayed at.

Total 5-day trip cost: $238. Flights, stays, food, transit, everything.

This is the kind of intel I break down every week in The Wanderlist — cheap flights, hostel hacks, budget itineraries, and hidden gems for people who'd rather spend money on experiences than overpriced hotels.

If you travel (or want to), this is your cheat sheet.
