Why Most Traders Lose on the 4H — And What the Candle Close Actually Tells You

Most traders stare at the 4H chart and still take bad entries.

The problem isn't the timeframe. It's that they're reading wicks and bodies without understanding what each close type actually means at an institutional level.

There are only four things a 4H candle can do:

1. Close Above (previous high)

Institutions are expanding price into premium. This is continuation — not the time to counter-trade.

2. Wick Below (with body closing inside range)

Liquidity was swept below, but price was rejected. Smart money grabbed stops and reversed. This is where most retail traders get stopped out — and where the real entry lives.

3. Close Below (previous low)

Displacement. Institutions are driving price into discount. If this happens during a kill zone with SMT confirmation, it's one of the highest-probability shorts you'll find.

4. Wick Above (with body closing inside range)

Same concept as wick below, but inverted. Liquidity was taken above, rejected, and price is ready to move down.

The edge isn't in the signal. It's in the confirmation.

A single candle close means nothing alone. But when you stack it with:

  • Kill-zone timing (London/NY overlap)

  • SMT divergence (correlated pair not confirming the move)

  • Higher timeframe alignment (daily/weekly bias)

You get a 4-point confirmation score. Signals scoring 3+ have a fundamentally different win rate than signals scoring 1.

This is exactly what 4H Candle Structure v3 automates on TradingView. No repainting. No subjectivity. Just structure, scored and delivered in real time.

If you trade ICT concepts on the 4H, this is the indicator that removes the guesswork.
