I almost never became a photographer.

I was in high school. Two friends convinced me to start a photography business with them. I got so hyped I went out the next day and spent my entire savings on a camera. I was literally $1 short at the register — a friend who worked there spotted me.

Two weeks later, I told my friends I was ready to go. They said: "Yeah... we talked about it and we're not doing it anymore."

I tried to return the camera. 14-day return policy. I showed up on day 15.

A day late and a dollar short.

So I kept the camera. Started shooting on my own. Figured out lighting through YouTube and trial and error. Booked my first gig for $50. Then $200. Then $500. Now I travel everywhere shooting for clients who found me because I never stopped.

The lesson? Nobody's coming to hand you a photography career. You have to build it yourself — one shoot, one client, one uncomfortable cold DM at a time.
