The 3 things I check before buying ANY small appliance for a tiny kitchen

Started Alcove Home Co. after moving into a 400 sq ft apartment and realizing 90% of "compact" appliances on the market are lying to you. Here's what I actually check now before buying anything for a small kitchen:

1. Counter footprint, not just size. A kettle can be "compact" but still eat your whole counter if the base is wide. Measure the footprint, not the box dimensions on Amazon.

2. Cord length + plug placement. Sounds dumb until you're stretching a toaster across your one outlet because the cord comes out the wrong side. Look for cords 3ft+ and rear/side exits.

3. Storage stackability. If it doesn't nest, stack, or hang, it's clutter in disguise. Anything I sell now has to pass the "can I put this away in under 10 seconds" test.

Most of what's sold as "apartment-friendly" just means small — not actually designed for how small spaces work. That gap is why I started curating bundles myself instead of hunting one-off products. Happy to share picks if anyone's furnishing a first place.
