The 3 baby gear categories where brand name is basically a tax

Spent the last few months tearing apart price tags on baby gear and here's what stood out: three categories where the 'premium' brand is almost pure markup with zero functional upgrade.

1. Baby monitors — Past a certain price point (~$60), you're paying for app polish, not better video/audio. The sensor tech barely changes above that.

2. Bottle warmers — Every model on the market heats water the same way. The $80 ones just have a nicer digital display than the $25 ones.

3. Diaper bags — This is the worst offender. A $200 'designer' bag and a $35 bag from a no-name brand often come from the exact same factory with different zippers sewn on.

Where it's actually worth paying up: car seats and strollers, because safety certifications and crash-test data genuinely differ between price tiers.

Started a small community (Tiny Essentials Club) where we track deal drops and cross-check products like this before parents buy — figured this breakdown might save someone a few bucks even if you never join.
