The 10-minute reading habit that actually sticks with preschoolers
Most parents quit phonics apps because the child will not sit still for a 20-minute lesson. That is not a discipline problem. It is a design problem.
Ages 3 to 5 learn in short bursts. Ten minutes is the whole session.
What works at our table:
One letter a day, not the whole alphabet. Find it in the house. Say its sound, not its name.
Count real things. Spoons. Stairs. Grapes. Fingers beat flashcards.
Same time every day. After breakfast beats “when we remember.”
Let them be wrong. Correcting every sound kills the game.
If your child walks away, the lesson is over. Try again tomorrow. Consistency beats intensity at this age.
That is the whole method behind Tiny Scholars. Short, parent-led, no worksheets that end up in the trash.
