I used to post cartoon story panels for free on social media. Good engagement, zero income, and no way to actually build something long-term with the people who kept coming back for the next part.

So I flipped it: instead of chasing algorithm reach, I built ToonVerse — a small paid space where readers get episodes first, before anywhere else, and actually get a say in where the story goes next (chat, polls, requests).

A few things I learned setting this up that might help other story creators here:

• Serialized content works way better as a membership than as one-off posts — people come back weekly instead of forgetting you exist

• Giving readers a chat to react in real time makes them feel like collaborators, not just an audience

• Free-to-join first, paid tier later, lowers the barrier so the community exists before you ask anyone for money
