Milwaukee vs DeWalt vs Makita — an honest breakdown for tradesmen

I've used all three extensively across residential and commercial jobs. Here's where each actually wins:

Milwaukee M18 — Best ecosystem for electricians and plumbers. The brushless motors are bulletproof. If you're buying your first cordless system, this is the pick for longevity. Downside: the most expensive batteries on the market.

DeWalt FLEXVOLT — Best for carpenters and framers. The circular saw and miter saw performance is unmatched at the price point. FLEXVOLT batteries are backwards compatible which is a huge win if you already have 20V tools.

Makita 18V LXT — Most underrated brand in the trades. Their sanders, jigsaws, and finishing tools are genuinely better than the other two. Best battery life per charge. Worst: limited cordless power tool selection compared to Milwaukee.

The real answer nobody wants to hear: Buy the brand your supply house stocks well and your crew already uses. Compatibility and quick battery swaps on a job site beat any spec sheet.
