The tutoring math nobody talks about: you already know enough to help someone

Quick story: a friend of mine spent $40/hr on a stats tutor last semester. Meanwhile she was tutoring freshmen in Spanish for free in her dorm lounge every week.

That's the disconnect. Every student is sitting on skills that are worth real money to someone else on their own campus — and most of them never think to trade it.

You don't need to be an expert to help someone. You just need to be one step ahead. If you got a B+ in a class, you can absolutely help someone who's about to take it. If you're decent at Excel, or know how to write a killer resume, or can explain derivatives without making someone cry — that's tradeable.

The idea behind TradeUp: instead of everyone individually hunting for a paid tutor (or suffering alone), students post what they can teach and what they need help with, and get matched with each other. No cash changes hands unless you want it to — it's mostly a straight swap. You help me with calc, I help you with your lab report.

If you're in college and tired of paying $30-50/hr for tutoring that a peer could give you for free (or for a trade), this is worth checking out.
