Word-for-word ad translations are why your ROAS dies overseas
Most DTC brands treat translation like a checkbox. Paste the English PDP into a generic tool. Publish. Wonder why Germany isn't converting.
Here's the part people skip: ads and product pages don't fail because the grammar is wrong. They fail because the offer got flattened.
A US headline like "Finally, a serum that doesn't pill under makeup" is a specific objection. A literal translation often becomes a vague beauty claim. Same words. Zero tension. The click disappears.
What actually needs to stay intact:
The objection (pilling, shipping time, shade match, returns)
The proof (reviews, numbers, before/after)
The CTA that matches how that market buys
If you're expanding into one new country this quarter, don't translate the whole catalog first. Translate the 3 lines that already convert: title, first bullet, primary CTA. Then run the same ad angle, not the same sentence.
That's the whole game. Native-sounding copy that still sells.
