5 destinations most people pick wrong (and what to pick instead)

I've helped dozens of people plan their first real trip, and the same mistakes keep coming up:

1. Paris as a "romantic getaway"

It's incredible, but if you and your partner are outdoorsy or beach people, you'll be miserable after day 2. Try Santorini or the Amalfi Coast instead — romance + scenery + water.

2. Bali "because everyone goes"

Bali is amazing but it's not for everyone. If you hate humidity and crowds, you'll regret it. Consider Portugal's Algarve — similar vibes, way less overwhelming.

3. Thailand only for the beaches

The beaches are great, but the real magic is in Chiang Mai — temples, street food, night markets, cooking classes. Most first-timers skip it entirely.

4. New York as a first international trip

If you're from Europe, NYC isn't as "different" as you think. Want a real culture shock (in a good way)? Try Tokyo. Clean, safe, completely unlike anything you've experienced.

5. All-inclusive resorts when you actually want to explore

If you're the type who gets bored sitting by the pool, don't book a resort in Cancún. Book a self-guided trip through Colombia or Morocco. Way more memorable, often cheaper too.

The trick is matching the destination to YOUR personality — not just what looks good on Instagram.

That's exactly what I help with inside TravelWorld. Personalized destination picks, booking walkthroughs, hotel reviews, the whole thing.
