Moving heavy machinery from Chennai to Delhi? Here's what most manufacturers get wrong

I've been running ODC freight on the Chennai–Delhi NCR corridor for a while now, and the #1 mistake I see manufacturers make: they book standard 20ft closed containers for equipment that clearly needs an open-body trailer.

Here's the thing — if your cargo is a JCB, industrial press, CNC machine, or anything exceeding standard dimensions, you need a 32ft open truck with proper ODC permits. Closed containers mean:

  • Unnecessary loading/unloading damage

  • Delays at state checkpoints because dimensions don't match paperwork

  • Higher costs because you're paying for multiple trips instead of one

The right way to ship ODC cargo Chennai ↔ Delhi NCR:

  1. Measure your cargo dimensions AND weight — not just one

  2. Get proper ODC/overweight permits sorted BEFORE loading day

  3. Use a 32ft open-body truck with chain lashing, not rope

  4. Plan the route around state border timings (UP borders are notorious for delays)

  5. Have someone who knows the NH44/NH48 corridors and which weigh bridges to expect

If you're a manufacturer in Chennai or Delhi NCR moving heavy equipment regularly, reach out — happy to answer questions about the route, permits, or logistics planning. That's literally what we do at Unique Logistics.
