5 Things Most World Cup 2026 Travelers Will Forget (And How to Avoid Them)
I've been deep in World Cup 2026 planning for months. Here are the 5 things I keep seeing people overlook — and each one can ruin a game day if you're not ready.
1. Stadium bag rules vary by city.
What's allowed at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey is NOT the same policy as Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. If you show up with the wrong bag, you're either tossing it or missing kickoff. Check each venue individually.
2. Public transit shuts down earlier than you think.
After a night match, the last train might leave 30 minutes after the final whistle. That's before you've even cleared the stadium. Map your return route BEFORE you go — including a backup rideshare plan.
3. Nearby ATMs get emptied on match day.
Tens of thousands of fans hit the same 3-block radius. Cash runs out. Card terminals crash. Bring local currency before you arrive at the stadium zone.
4. Food options near stadiums are limited and overpriced.
Every host city has better food 10-15 minutes away from the venue. But you need to know WHERE before you're hungry and lost. Scout options in advance.
5. Nightlife in host cities is concentrated in specific zones.
Don't wander aimlessly at 11pm in an unfamiliar city. The best post-match spots are usually clustered in 2-3 neighborhoods. Know which ones before you land.
I built a worksheet that covers all of this — stadium essentials, local rules, transit, food, nightlife, safety, and a daily game-day itinerary. One document, all your planning done before you fly out.
If you're attending World Cup 2026 and don't want to wing it, check it out. ⚽
