5 spots tourists never find (but locals swear by)

Every city has them — the places that never show up on TripAdvisor, the ones locals gatekeep until you earn their trust.

I've spent years collecting these. Here's a taste:

  1. The rooftop nobody talks about — Most cities have a free or cheap rooftop with better views than the $40 observation deck. In Lisbon, it's Miradouro da Graça at sunset. In NYC, it's the parking garage on Ludlow.

  1. The 6 AM market — Skip brunch. Every great food city has a wholesale or farmers market that opens before dawn. The food is half the price and twice as authentic.

  1. The neighborhood one stop past the tourist zone — In Barcelona, everyone stops at Barceloneta. Take the metro one more stop to Poblenou — better beach, better coffee, no crowds.

  1. The bar with no sign — Not a speakeasy gimmick. An actual neighborhood bar that's been there 40 years. Every city has one. Ask a cab driver.

  1. The free walking tour that isn't free — Tip-based walking tours attract the best guides because they only eat if they're good. Always do one on your first day.

I'm building a full database of spots like these — city by city, neighborhood by neighborhood.
