The dropshipping mistake almost every beginner makes in week one

Most people who fail at dropshipping don't fail because of ads or fulfillment — they fail because they pick a product before they've validated any demand for it.

Here's the pattern I see constantly: someone finds a "trending" product on a TikTok compilation, throws up a store in a weekend, spends $50 on ads, gets zero sales, and quits telling themselves "dropshipping is dead."

Dropshipping isn't dead. Picking products emotionally instead of with data is what's dead.

Before you build anything, you want three signals lining up on a product:

  1. Search demand — is anyone actually looking for this, or just seeing it in an ad?

  2. Repeat interest — is it showing up across multiple sources over weeks, not just one viral clip?

  3. Margin room — can you land it for 1/3 of what you'd sell it for after ads and fees?

If a product only has one of those three, it's a gamble, not a business. When it has all three, you're not guessing anymore — you're just executing.

That validation step is boring compared to picking a "cool" product, but it's the entire difference between people who get a first sale in week one and people who burn their ad budget and disappear. Happy to break down how I run that process if anyone's curious.
