Why I stopped using Google Docs for client work
Last year I realized something uncomfortable: every document I shared with a client was being scanned, indexed, and fed into an ad profile.
I'm a remote professional. My clients trust me with sensitive business data — financial projections, hiring plans, product roadmaps. And I was storing all of it on a platform that literally makes money by understanding what people do online.
So I started building alternatives. Not "degoogled" hacks that break every week — actual productivity tools designed from the ground up with privacy as the default.
Here's what I learned:
1. Privacy doesn't have to mean worse UX. People stick with Big Tech because switching feels hard. It doesn't have to be.
2. Most "privacy tools" are built for developers. Regular professionals — consultants, designers, coaches — get left behind.
3. Your clients care more than you think. I started mentioning privacy-first tools in proposals. Close rate went up. Trust sells.
That's why I built Vaultbox — privacy-first productivity tools for professionals who take their clients' trust seriously.
