The 3-Account System That Changed How I Manage Money
Most people have one bank account and wonder why they're always broke by the 25th.
Here's the system I've used for 4 years — and what I built Vaultplan's templates around:
Account 1: Operating — This is where your income lands. Rent, bills, subscriptions come out of here. Nothing else.
Account 2: Stacking — Every payday, 20% moves here automatically. This is your emergency fund + short-term savings. Don't touch it unless something breaks.
Account 3: Growth — Once Account 2 hits 3 months of expenses, the overflow goes here. This is your investment account. Index funds, ETFs, whatever fits your risk tolerance.
The magic isn't in the accounts — it's in the automation. Set up auto-transfers on payday and your willpower becomes irrelevant.
I built Vaultplan because I got tired of doing this math in my head. The Budget Master template automates Account 1 tracking. The Investment Tracker handles Account 3. And the Net Worth Dashboard ties it all together.
But even without the templates — try the 3-account system. It works.
