3 things nobody tells you before buying your first online business
Spent the last few months digging through small online business listings (whops, SaaS tools, e-comm stores) and here's what actually matters before you wire money to a stranger:
1. Revenue screenshots lie by omission. Anyone can show you a good month. Ask for a 6-12 month trend, not a snapshot. If the seller hesitates, that's your answer.
2. Traffic/member source matters more than the number. 5,000 organic members who've been there a year beats 20,000 members that came from a single viral post last week. Ask how they got there and whether it's repeatable.
3. Ownership transfer is where deals die. Payment processor access, Discord ownership, domain/DNS — get a clear written handover plan before you pay anything. Use escrow, always. A seller who won't do escrow is telling you something.
Building VentureFlip because I kept seeing buyers get burned on random Discord/Telegram deal groups with zero vetting. If you're looking to buy your first whop or small SaaS business, come check out what we've got vetted right now.
