The 5 exercises every adult over 50 should be doing weekly
I've worked with hundreds of adults 50+ and the biggest mistake I see is people either doing too much (and getting hurt) or doing nothing at all.
Here are the 5 non-negotiable movements that keep you strong, mobile, and independent as you age:
1. Goblet Squats — Protects your knees, builds leg strength for getting up from chairs, stairs, and the floor. Start with bodyweight, add a light dumbbell when ready.
2. Dead Hangs — Just hanging from a bar for 10-30 seconds. Decompresses your spine, opens your shoulders, and builds grip strength (a top predictor of longevity).
3. Farmer's Walks — Grab two heavy-ish dumbbells and walk. Strengthens your core, improves posture, and mimics carrying groceries. Functional as it gets.
4. Hip Hinges (Romanian Deadlifts) — The #1 exercise for protecting your lower back. Learn to bend properly and your back pain disappears.
5. Turkish Get-Ups — Getting up from the floor safely is a life skill. This exercise trains the whole chain. Start with no weight.
Do these 2-3x per week and you'll move better than most people half your age.
Inside the Longevity Inner Circle, we break each of these down with video tutorials, progressions, and weekly programming. If you're serious about aging on your own terms, come join us.
