A dark fantasy scene showing a crowned knight in black, tattered armor with a blood-red cape. He stands victorious on a battlefield littered with fallen soldiers and broken weapons. His right arm is raised high, holding a shattered crown. Storm clouds and smoke fill the sky behind him, with ruined banners in the distance. The mood is grim, epic, and defiant.
Most creators lose their audience before the video even starts. Here's why.
I spent months posting TikToks and Reels that got 200-500 views max. Same editing. Same effort. Nothing was landing.
Then I figured out something stupidly simple: the first 3 seconds are the entire video.
Not metaphorically. Literally. If your hook doesn't stop the scroll in 3 seconds, the algorithm buries you.
Here's the framework I use now:
Pattern interrupt — Start with something unexpected. A bold statement, a weird visual, a question that makes zero sense until you explain it.
Promise the payoff — Tell them exactly what they'll get if they keep watching.
Cut the intro — No "hey guys, welcome back." Start at the value.
Since switching to this approach, my average view count went from 400 to 15K+. Same account. Same niche. Just better hooks.
