5 mistakes people make when choosing fitted wardrobes
After fitting hundreds of bedrooms, these are the most common mistakes I see:
1. Ignoring the ceiling height
Most people buy standard 2.4m wardrobes and waste 20-40cm of dead space above. A fitted wardrobe goes floor to ceiling — that's an entire shelf's worth of storage you're leaving on the table.
2. Choosing handles over push-to-open
Handles in a tight bedroom create pinch points. Push-to-open mechanisms give you cleaner lines and more usable space.
3. Not planning internal layout first
If you don't map out hanging rails, drawers, and shoe racks before ordering, you'll be reorganising within 6 months.
4. Going flat-pack to "save money"
Flat-pack lasts 3-5 years. Fitted lasts 15-25. Cost per year is almost always lower with bespoke.
5. Forgetting about lighting
Integrated LED strips turn a wardrobe from furniture into a feature. Almost nothing to add during build, expensive to retrofit.
Get these right and you'll love the result for decades.
