I tracked every dollar I spent for 90 days. Here's what I learned.

Most people think they know where their money goes. They don't.

I used to think I was "pretty good" with money. I had a rough budget in my head, knew my rent, and figured the rest was fine. Then I actually tracked it — every transaction, every category, every week for 3 months.

What I found:

  • I was spending $340/month on food I thought cost $200

  • My "subscriptions" were $187/month — I knew about maybe $60 of it

  • I had zero visibility on whether I was actually building net worth or just surviving

  • My "savings" goal had no deadline, no target, and no real plan

The numbers didn't lie. My mental model was wrong.

What actually fixed it:

Not a budgeting app with 47 features I'd never use. A structured dashboard — one view for income vs expenses, one for net worth, one for debt. Clean. Fast to update. Something I'd actually open every week.

When you see your numbers clearly, you make different decisions. Not because you're more disciplined — but because the friction of ignoring them goes up.

If your finances feel like a black box, start with clarity. That's step one.
