Why most beginner bettors lose money (and it's not the picks)

Been building a sports picks community and noticed the same pattern in almost every beginner: it's never the picks that kill the bankroll, it's the bet sizing.

A guy hits 55% on his picks over a month — genuinely good — and still loses money because he's betting 20% of his bankroll on "locks" and 2% on hedges. The math doesn't care how confident you feel.

Three things that actually move the needle for beginners:

  1. Flat staking. Same unit size on every bet until you have 100+ bets of data. No exceptions for "sure things."

  2. Track everything. Not just win/loss — track closing line value. If you're consistently beating the closing line, you're sharp long-term even through a losing week.

  3. Fewer, better bets. 3 well-researched plays a day beats 15 mediocre ones. Volume feels productive; it's usually just variance with extra steps.

Building WORDL BETTING around exactly this — daily signals plus the discipline framework around them, because picks alone don't fix a leaky bankroll.
