It's rarely 'dominance.' It's almost always fear or overstimulation.

French Bulldogs are brachycephalic — flat-faced — which means their body language is harder to read than other breeds. They can't pant as effectively, can't vocalize distress the same way, and their facial structure makes subtle warning signs (lip licks, whale eye, stiffening) easy to miss until they escalate straight to a growl or snap.

A few things that actually move the needle:

1. Manage distance before you manage behavior. If your Frenchie reacts to other dogs at 10ft, training at 10ft is too late. Start at whatever distance they can stay calm and shrink it slowly.

2. Heat and discomfort masquerade as aggression. Frenchies overheat fast, and a dog in physical discomfort has way less bite inhibition (no pun intended). Rule out physical stuff first.

3. Reactivity is a symptom, not the diagnosis. Leash reactivity, resource guarding, and stranger-danger barking usually trace back to one root: under-socialization in the 8-16 week window, or a scary event that never got properly decompressed.
