A shadow work exercise that doesn't need a journal, a candle, or forty minutes. Name one thing about yourself you'd be embarrassed if someone else said out loud. Not the polished version — the actual sentence.

Don't fix it. Don't reframe it into a growth lesson before you've even sat with it. Just let it be said, even just to yourself. Most people skip straight to solving because sitting with it undefended is the uncomfortable part.

That discomfort is the actual work. Not a warm-up before the real exercise — the exercise itself. If it doesn't feel a little bad, you probably picked something safe to admit instead of something true.

Everything after that is optional. You can journal it, sit with it again later, bring it to a friend, or just let it exist now that it's been named once honestly. The naming did the heavy lifting. The rest is maintenance.

Three weeks ago I charged a sigil for a specific financial outcome. I want to walk through exactly what I did because most sigil content online skips the actual mechanics.

Step 1: I wrote the intent as a full sentence. Not "money," an actual sentence with a real outcome attached to it. Vague intent = vague result.

Step 2: reduced it to consonants, removed repeats, turned what was left into a single glyph. Took maybe 10 minutes. This part isn't mystical, it's just compression.

Step 3: I didn't charge it through candlelight and incense. I charged it through physical exhaustion — pushed my body until my mind went quiet, then stared at the sigil in that blank state for maybe 20 seconds.

Step 4 — the part nobody talks about: I destroyed it immediately after. Burned it. If you keep checking on your sigil, you're keeping the conscious mind involved, and the conscious mind is exactly what you're trying to bypass.

Result showed up 3 weeks later, not immediately, and not in the exact shape I expected. That's normal. The unconscious doesn't take orders, it finds paths.

If your sigil "hasn't worked yet" — check if you're still thinking about it daily. That's usually the actual issue, not the magic.

The sage doesn't strive. They align. There is a difference.

Here's the part that gets left out when people quote lines like this: alignment isn't the enlightened shortcut past effort. It's what effort looks like after you've paid it down for long enough that it stops being visible — to you or anyone watching.

Striving is cheap in one sense: you can start today, and everyone can see you doing it. Alignment is expensive in a different sense — it's back-loaded, unglamorous, and mostly invisible while you're in it. You don't get to have alignment as a starting move. You get to have it as a bill that eventually stops arriving.

If you're still in the striving phase — good. That's not a lesser stage, that's the one where the invoice is due. Pay it or don't, but don't mistake "not striving" for "not working."

People ask why I mix Taoism with chaos magic like the two traditions signed some kind of exclusivity agreement I wasn't told about.

They didn't. I checked.

Nothing happened. Not "subtle nothing" — actual nothing, for months. And I almost concluded the whole method doesn't work, based on one intention I'd written half-asleep in about ninety seconds

Rewrote it later as an actual sentence with a real, specific outcome attached. Different result entirely.

The lesson cost me months I didn't need to lose. Posting the rest of what I got wrong as I go — this is one of a few. Follow along if you want to skip some of the time I wasted.

Binding a sigil in wax feels different than burning one. Burning releases. Wax holds.

I don't yet know which one is right for which kind of intent. Testing both for a month before I have an opinion worth sharing.

Rewrote the same intention four times today in four different tenses. Present, future, imperative, past-as-if-already-done.

They are not the same spell. They don't even feel like the same request. Still figuring out why.

Burned cinnamon, mint, parsley, and bay leaf down to ash today specifically to bind a sigil into the residue.

If you'd told me two years ago I'd be doing that on a Tuesday I'd have asked what happened to me. Nothing happened to me. I just kept practicing.

Testing whether conjugation actually matters in a written intention or whether that's a rule I inherited without checking.

"I receive" vs "I am receiving" vs "I will receive" — wrote all three, same intent underneath. We'll see which one, if any, does something.
