You didn't lose your AirPods. You set them down while unlocking the door.

Most "lost" devices aren't stolen. They're in the last 10 seconds of a habit you don't notice.

The pattern I kept seeing:

  • Phone: left on the kitchen counter when you grabbed water

  • Keys: still in the door or hanging on the bag you switched

  • AirPods case: on the shoe rack, because that's where your hands were when the door opened

The fix isn't another tray by the door. It's a ping the moment you notice they're gone — before you start the 20-minute search that makes you late.

Three rules that actually work:

  1. Name the last room, not the last hour. Your brain lies about time. Rooms don't.

  2. Ping before you search. Searching first just moves the thing further.

  3. Track the case, not the bud. The case is what you put down. The bud is what you panic about.

If you lose the same three things every week, that's not a personality trait. That's a location problem. Treat it like one.
