2. Ask for proof of insurance. Sounds excessive until your dog bolts after a squirrel and knocks someone over. Accidents happen.

3. Check if they handle reactive dogs. Not every walker can. If your dog is leash-reactive, you need someone who knows how to manage it — not just someone with a free afternoon.

4. A trial walk is non-negotiable. Watch how they interact with your dog. Do they let the dog sniff? Do they correct pulling calmly? You'll know in 10 minutes.
