I keep seeing people gatekeep AI development like you need 4 years of computer science to build anything useful. That's just not true anymore.
Here's what actually changed:
1. AI APIs did the heavy lifting for you.
You don't need to understand neural network architecture to call an API. OpenAI, Anthropic, and open-source models give you superpowers with a few lines of code.
2. The tools got absurdly simple.
Python + a framework like FastAPI or Streamlit + an AI API = a working product. That's it. No PhD required.
3. The gap is in ideas, not skills.
Most AI apps that make money aren't technically impressive — they just solve a specific problem for a specific person. A resume optimizer for nurses. A meal planner that accounts for allergies. Simple apps, real value.
The hardest part isn't the code — it's deciding what to build and actually shipping it.
