The #1 mistake people make when washing their car
Most people grab a sponge, bucket of soapy water, and start scrubbing in circles.
That's how you destroy your paint.
Here's what's actually happening: dirt particles get trapped in the sponge and you're grinding them across your clear coat with every pass. Those fine scratches you see in direct sunlight? That's swirl marks from improper washing.
The fix is simple — the two-bucket method:
Bucket 1: Clean soapy water
Bucket 2: Rinse water with a grit guard at the bottom
Use a microfiber wash mitt (never a sponge)
Wash one panel at a time, rinse the mitt in bucket 2, then reload from bucket 1
This alone will keep your paint looking 10x better than most cars on the road.
This is just one of the fundamentals I break down in the Detail Academy course. If you want to learn the full process — from decontamination to paint correction to ceramic coating — it's all inside.
