Did you know that only about 3% of course buyers complete courses purchased online? This low completion rate means that very few of your course buyers realize the full value of your courses and are, therefore, less likely to buy from you again.

To solve this problem, course creation platforms rely on gamification—the application of gaming to make courses fun and engaging. This, in turn, increases course retention and completion rates.

Xperiencify is one of the popular platforms that use such techniques. It assures course creators that students are 10-30 times more likely to complete their courses if they use the platform correctly. The website states that over 10,000 course creators trust the platform and its services.

In this detailed review, we look at what Xperiencify is, who can use it, its standout features, how to get started on the platform, its course creation process, how to make your Xperiencify course stand out, its cost, pros and cons, and current user sentiments.

We also look at other gamified online course platforms to help you see how they stack up against Xperiencify and answer some frequently asked questions about the platform.

By the end of the article, you will know whether Xperiencify is worth it in 2025 and if you should consider using it to create your courses.

What is Xperiencify?

xperiencify

Xperiencify is a digital platform for creating and selling courses that uses gamification techniques to engage learners and improve course completion rates. The platform also lets you sell memberships and community access.

Marisa Murgatroyd and Murray Gray started Xperiencify in 2019 to help course creators maximize the value of their products. The two founders noticed that people love to play games, mainly because of their addictive nature. Based on this, they incorporated gamification tools such as points, badges, and rewards into the platform through a process called experiencification.

Experiencification uses concepts and techniques from psychology, apps, games, and the gambling industry to optimize engagement by making courses fun experiences rather than tedious tasks.

Who can use Xperiencify?

All creators looking to sell their courses by making them a memorable experience can use Xperiencify. The platform provides a simple course creation process, so you do not have to be tech-savvy to use it.

For this reason, Xperiencify is ideal for beginner and seasoned course creators, whether individuals, small business owners, or large organizations.

What does Xperiencify offer course creators?

Advanced gamification capabilities

One of Xperiencify's best features is its ability to gamify learning content. It allows tutors to turn online courses into interactive, rewarding, and addictive experiences, which boosts student engagement, satisfaction, and completion rates.

The tools rely on several gamification triggers that appeal to your learners' emotional and mental states.

Here are the gamification triggers:

Points

On Xperiencify, points are rewards given when you do an action. Students earn points for completing lessons, quizzes, or tasks. In turn, they become more motivated to keep learning, like trying to reach the next level in a game.

Gamification points are essential for course creators because they boost completion rates. They make learning feel like continuous progress rather than a chore since your students get to see tangible rewards for their efforts.

Variable rewards

Xperiencify’s outcomes are not predictable. Sometimes, your students get small bonuses, sometimes they get big rewards, and sometimes, they get no reward for their actions.

This unpredictable nature of course content mimics the addictiveness of games and social media. It keeps learners curious and engaged and encourages students to complete lessons to see what they might win next.

Urgency and FOMO

Xperiencify bolsters the fear of missing out (FOMO) through deadlines, limited-time events, and automated reminders. This sense of urgency keeps students true to their goals, which improves course progression and completion.

Social proof

Students thrive on feedback and validation. Being heard and noticed for their efforts makes them more confident, motivated, and engaged.

With Xperiencify, learners can share progress and achievements and interact with peers. Features like leaderboards or peer feedback provide a sense of community and recognition. They also create a lively course environment that keeps learners coming back for more content.

Community

Xperiencify also allows students to join a community and share social proof of their progress. They interact under specific tags on the platform’s social forum, where they can seek feedback and compete with their peers.

For course creators, the community feature reduces dropouts because it makes students feel part of something bigger. It also increases the likelihood of repeat sales or referrals.

Celebrations

Everyone loves to be celebrated. With Xperiencify, students receive recognition for completing course modules, hitting milestones, and achieving personal goals. Milestone and achievement celebrations are integrated into the platform’s content to ensure students feel validated.

mission accomplished

Examples include welcoming a student, complimenting their progress, celebrating a high score, and acknowledging their course completion. Such celebrations keep students motivated due to the positive reinforcement and create a sense of accomplishment that drives them to reach the next milestone.

Personalization

No two students are the same, and Xperiencify perfectly reflects that. The platform uses an Experience Engine to track student progress and behavior. This tool offers personalized rewards, encouragement, and content, making your courses feel less generic by tailoring them to individual students.

Let’s take a deeper look at the Experience Engine.

The Experience Engine

Suppose you are a course seller looking to minimize the hassle of creating gamified experiences for your students. Xperiencify offers a solution in the Experience Engine, which works tirelessly in the background to automate tasks such as sending emails, SMS messages, and voicemails. It engages students and boosts retention by offering points, badges, and customized celebrations.

This automation system starts when a student buys a course, has been absent for several days, logs in for the first time after a while, or when a specific module becomes available. It also comes into play after a student completes a course.

You can also use the Experience Engine’s AI features to create multipurpose content.

Here’s why the Experience Engine stands out:

  • It offers straight-up onboarding: Traditional onboarding processes were often tedious and highly technical. Xperiencify eliminates these hurdles by automatically redirecting students into the course right after payment. No extra logins are needed.
  • Students can learn within the first hour: Most courses are dull and overwhelming, and students tend to lose attention very quickly. The Experience Engine tackles this by assigning points for each completed lesson, quiz, or action. It also recognizes small victories with animations, sounds, and badges.
  • Weekly motivation: Xperiencify ensures students don’t fall off by building momentum through a leaderboard and recognizing consistent participation or module completion. It also offers surprise gifts and unlocks hidden content as you go.
  • Grand finales: The Experience Engine celebrates course completion by sending a congratulatory message, animation, or custom video. Learners also receive personalized upgrade offers and follow-up emails, SMSs, or voicemails.
  • Proactivity: Inevitably, some students will drift away. Xperiencify uses automated nudges to bring them back by sending emails, SMS, or voicemails. It also plays a “Welcome Back” celebration when they log in again.

Certificates of completion

This feature is in its beta phase. It will enable course creators to issue customizable certificates to students once they complete specific courses.

The key features and options include:

  • Pre-designed certificates: A gallery of 20 styles is available for immediate use. However, the customization of text and font sizes is currently limited.
  • Custom certificates: Users can upload their own designs. These designs must include blank templates, filled-out examples, and font usage instructions.
  • Non-English certificates: Certificates can be customized for various languages.
  • Testing certificates: Users can set up test tags and triggers to streamline testing without having to complete the entire course.

Set up the welcome email

Once you have set up your course, it's time to launch a welcome experience for your students. Xperiencify allows you to send a personalized email to students when they first log in to your course. This email includes their login details and a warm welcome message, which is customizable.

Build celebrations

You can motivate your students by setting up fun and rewarding celebrations at key moments of the course. For example, you can create celebrations for completing a module or achieving a specific goal.

Xperiencify allows you to use pre-created celebrations like a dancing monkey and fireworks. You can customize them further by changing the background and adding animations or sound effects.

Utilize the Experience Engine

Xperiencify’s Experience Engine is a tool that automates communication and engagement. You can create triggers that send your students emails, text messages, and voicemails once specific actions happen.

You can also set up delays between communications to manage engagements, such as after students complete a module.

Set up Student Rescue

Sometimes, students get distracted and forget to log into their accounts for a while. Xperiencify’s Student Rescue feature helps bring them back.

You can set up a “rescue” campaign that sends reminders after a certain period of inactivity. This feature sends an email and SMS to the student, reminding them of the course and encouraging them to continue.

Customize the Marketplace Page

Xperiencify provides a customizable Marketplace page where all your courses are displayed. This page is the perfect central hub for students to browse your courses and enrol in those they like. You can add information, images, and a clear call to action here.

Set up an affiliate program

You can develop an affiliate program by allowing students to refer others to your course. Xperiencify provides you with the affiliate link that pays a 30% commission once someone signs up using it.

However, Xperiencify limits the number of published courses and students that are active in your account every month based on your paid plan.

xperiencify pricing

Here is a breakdown of the paid plans:

Growth plan

The growth plan costs $99 per month, limits up to 1000 active students per month and allows you to publish a maximum of 10 courses. You can have an additional administrator on this plan.

Pro plan

The Pro plan costs $199 monthly and allows you to publish up to 20 courses. The plan is friendlier to established course creators as its active monthly students expand to 5000. Just like the Growth plan, you can have an additional administrator. The plan also gives you access to an API that allows more control.

Platinum plan

Xperiencify’s third paid plan, the Platinum plan, focuses on large-scale creators. It costs $299 monthly and allows you to publish up to 50 courses. With the help of 10 administrators, you can have up to 20,000 active monthly students.

Enterprise

Enterprises whose needs go beyond the first three paid plans can customize the number of published courses and active monthly students.

Since this plan is all about customization, Xperiencify does not list a price for the plan. You have to contact Xperiencify for a customized quote.

Reviews and ratings: What are users saying about Xperiencify?

Xperiencify has not yet been rated on major review sites like Trustpilot, G2, Trustradius, and Capterra. On the App Store, it is rated 3.3 out of 5 from 7 reviews.

xperiencify ratings

We didn’t find any reviews on the Google Play Store, so we headed over to YouTube and found a user who has used Xperiencify for two years.

Caelan Huntress, a YouTuber, uses Xperiencify to gamify his four modules. He starts by saying Xperiencify has many cool features, including the dopamine hits offered by the gamification elements. He also praises the platform’s URL structure for course pages.

However, he mentions some difficulties while using the CSS, forcing him to downgrade to a lower pricing plan. When he downgraded, the platform switched fonts and branding, leading to an altered look he didn’t like.

Huntress also doesn’t like Xperiencify’s navigation from one lesson to another on the learners’ end. In addition, he says the platform can improve its integrations to make them more seamless—he has to set up a unique Zapier per course to automate his emails.

Because of these reasons and more, he’s moved on to other platforms.

xperencify

We also found verified Xperiencify reviews on the eLearning Industry. Xperiencify has a positive overall performance rating of 90% from 80 reviews. Most positive reviews on the platform praise Xperiencify’s user-friendly interface, gamification features that keep learners engaged, and excellent customer service.

One of the reviewers, Raquel, likes the platform’s ability to gamify its front and backend and its ability to keep improving by adding new features. She further states that Xperiencify resolved what she disliked, and the platform has become better than its competitors.

raquel review

Raffi, another Xperiencify user, likes its gamification features and customer service. However, he dislikes Xperiencify for having some aspects of coding involved despite not understanding it. Even so, he admits that other course platforms also involve some level of coding.

raffi review

Although most Xperiencify reviews on the eLearning Industry are positive, there are a few negative reviews. One user complained about the platform being expensive, and another said converting a course from another platform to Xperiencify involves a lot of work.

The worst review we found was a user stating how Xperiencify’s updates led to 404 errors and the deletion of his account, resulting in multiple payment failures and massive losses. Interestingly, Xperiencify admits to the bugs but says they safeguarded their system to prevent such a problem from happening again.

No. The bad

Available user reviews for Xperiencify are also quite mixed. On one hand, there is praise for its gamification capabilities, ease of use, and customer service. On the other hand, there are concerns regarding updates, pricing, and the effort required when migrating multiple courses to the platform.

Although the overall user sentiments are positive, these reviews highlight the potential challenges you should expect if you choose to use the platform.
