Whether you're a full-time creator or a budding TikTok aficionado, you might be wondering just how much TikTok pays its creators. There are definitely big bucks to be made from the platform, but many creators are better off turning to other sources of revenue, such as setting up a community with Whop

How Much Does TikTok Pay Creators?

While Tiktok does not release specific figures, pooled information from a number of creators tells us that the new Creator Rewards Program can pay between $4 and $8 per 1000 views, which is up significantly from the previous Creator Fund—but you have to qualify for it first.

Series is another big source of income if you want to get paid directly by TikTok. Through Series, you may have more direct control over how much you make given that you’d have a say in setting the paywall price. TikTok currently allows its users to price their premium content between $0.99 and $189.99 per Series.

However, when it comes to making money on TikTok, there isn’t a single straightforward answer as to how you can make some cash. Some of the methods involve enticing gifts from your viewers, but TikTok itself even has a few different ways that it pays creators directly, such as the previously mentioned Creator Rewards Program and TikTok Series.

Of course, these are not the only ways you can make money on TikTok, and depending on your chosen source of revenue, your income will vary. In this article, we’ll go into a little more detail on how to get the money rolling in from everyone’s favorite procrastination app.

How to Make Money on TikTok in 6 Different Ways

The first and most vital thing you’ll need before you can make money on TikTok is a community. Building a good community full of return viewers means that you have an audience ready to monetize through avenues like exclusive subscriber content. That community can end up earning you tens of thousands of dollars if you nurture it just right.

The various options for making money all come with a different fine print. If you’re ready to break out the selfie ring light and start trying to trend, here are some of the ways you can get paid by TikTok.

1. Make Money on TikTok Live

tiktok gifts
TikTok users can buy coins through the app, and spend those coins on LIVE gifts for creators.

TikTok isn’t just for posting pre-recorded content; you can also livestream on it. With live streaming comes the ability to turn on LIVE gifts. Here's how it works:

  • Viewers can spend their actual money on virtual gifts
  • The more gifts a creator gets the more TikTok will reward them with Diamonds
  • Diamonds can be exchanged for payment or for more virtual items that you can then gift to other creators.

In order to receive gifts while streaming live, you must be over 18 years old and live in a country where TikTok offers the LIVE gift purchase option. Check TikTok for the latest updates on new countries where monetization is available.

Currently, the countries accepted are:

  • United States
  • United Kingdom
  • Spain
  • Italy
  • France
  • Germany

Your account must also be in good standing with regard to TikTok’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.

How much does TikTok Live pay?

The amount of money you can make with TikTok Live depends on your engagement. In order to redeem $1, you must receive 200 diamonds (one diamond is equal to two coins). You also need a minimum of $100 cash before you can withdraw funds, and TikTok takes a 50% cut.

You can make money by interacting with your viewers live in other ways, too—outside of TikTok. Funneling your fan base to a paid community and hosting live video calls in your Whop hub is a fantastic way to do this.

2. Participate in the TikTok Creator Program

tikTok creator program
The new TikTok Creator Rewards Program is more competitive but offers higher payout.

Before you can apply and be considered for the TikTok Creator Rewards Program, you have to hit a few milestones. Let's check them out.

  • You need to be at least 18 years old and have a personal account (as opposed to a business one)
  • You must have at least 10,000 followers and have garnered at least 100,000 views within the past 30 days. This applies to every country aside from South Korea, which requires you to be at least 19 years old.
  • TikTok requires that monetized content be original and authentic, the videos cannot feature any false statements or be abusive in any way, and the creator must not be trying to inflate views or falsify anything with regard to the Creator Rewards Program.
  • The videos themselves should be at least a minute long and have at least 1,000 views. TikTok counts a view as a person that remains on the video for longer than five seconds and is not marked as Not Interested by the viewer. These videos also can’t include advertisements, paid promotions, Series content, or sponsored content.

Basically: no double dipping! If someone else is paying you for the content, TikTok won’t.

How much does the TikTok creator program pay?

According to TikTok's top creators, they earn between $0.50 and $1 per 1000 views with the TikTok Creator Rewards Program. That means that per every 1 million views, TikTok creators could earn from $500 to $1000 dollars.

3. Find a TikTok Sponsor

tiktok sponsor
Sponsors pay content creators to make content centered around the product, like Cheez-Its.

Speaking of being paid for your content … the other primary source of income for most larger TikTok creators comes in the form of sponsorships. Oftentimes, this is how you rake in the big bucks, as these sponsorship deals can get you anywhere from a few hundred to hundreds of thousands of dollars. (Of course, for the latter, you'll need to be a huge creator.)

As you grow your account, you’ll be able to advertise more, but be careful not to overdo it—your audience won't consider you authentic if you do. Take care and study what the influencers you admire do, and pay attention to other up-and-coming accounts as they start to gain deals with companies.

You can also find management to work with corporate PR departments. Managers come with the knowledge of what your worth should be, and experience dealing with companies. Because a manager will only make money when you make money, they’re always incentivized to help negotiate the best terms. On the other hand, working with a PR company costs you money, too.

How much can you charge for a sponsored TikTok post?

A standard creator with 10k and 50k followers can make in the ballpark of $25 to $125 per post, while a creator with 50k to 500k followers can make closer to $1,000 per post depending on where you fall in that range.

4. Make TikTok Series videos

tiktok series
TikTok Series allows you to put longer pieces of content behind a paywall.

With TikTok Series, you can take a collection of videos and publish them behind a paywall. A Series is a great idea if you want to post educational content or multiple pieces of content on the same niche topic.

Series videos can be as long as 20 minutes, but with a Series, you make the money through people paying to see the content, and not per view. The key with a Series is to post content that your specific audience will be interested enough to buy into.

Acceptance into the TikTok Series Program is not automatic or guaranteed. This is something that you can apply to, and there’s a small wait involved while your application is reviewed by TikTok employees. Your content needs to meet the eligibility requirements set forth by TikTok.

In addition to that element of human review, your videos need to meet similar eligibility requirements as those for the Creator Rewards Program. Just as a refresher, here they are:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a personal account that is over 30 days old
  • Have posted 3 or more public TikToks
  • Have received 1,000 or more views in the last 30 days
  • Have at least 10,000 followers
  • Post original content

How much can you make with TikTok Series?

If your content qualifies and your TikTok Series is accepted, you’ll have the potential to make up to $189.99. Just keep your audience in mind, and try to figure out how much they’re willing to pay for the videos that you’re making.

Affiliate codes are a way for businesses and creators to benefit without a larger commitment.

If you haven’t quite hit the level where you can get those mouth-watering sponsorship deals, you can still make money on TikTok through other businesses. Many offer affiliate programs or are willing to give smaller creators affiliate codes.

These generally work on the basis that you earn a kickback for each item sold through your link or purchased with your code. The business makes money by selling a product, and you make a small amount by being the avenue through which someone found the item in the first place. And if you pick the right products, your viewers will be happy to get their hands on something that you yourself swear by. Everyone wins! (Unless you overdo it.)

It's important to note that outside affiliate links usually cannot be shared in your TikToks, though you can promote products. You might be better off using affiliate links directly through TikTok’s own built-in storefront, dubbed the TikTok Shop. Most sellers set their commission rate between 5% and 20%, so you’ll be able to do the math on what you’re likely to earn based on how much the product costs.

Remember that each seller is also allowed to make their own set of criteria that you as the creator must meet, and choosing which creators do marketing for them is at their discretion. If there are shops that you find particularly interesting, you can try reaching out to see if you meet what the seller is looking for with influencer marketing.

How much can you earn in TikTok affiliate marketing?

The earning potential of TikTok affiliate marketing depends on your audience size, rate, and engagement rate. As such, you can earn anywhere from a few dollars to thousands of dollars per campaign.

6. Make Your Own Merch

sell merch
Websites like Redbubble allow anyone to make and sell their own merch

One of the key components of any successful TikToker is their audience. Building your own brand means appealing to people, and creating a community that wants to support you and see you doing well. An engaged, appreciative audience will be more willing to put their money where their Likes are.

Once you have that in place, you can consider making your own merch and selling it. Not only is it a good way to supplement your income as a content creator, but it gives your viewers a chance to have something tangible to show their support of you out in the wild.

Selling merch is also fairly low-risk if you use a print on demand service. These services will allow you to upload any non-copyrighted design, usually with no financial commitment, though it will take a nice little chunk of each sale. You can even have your merch design printed on a variety of items, from higher price tags like t-shirts and hoodies to things as cheap as stickers and coffee mugs.

As you develop a stronger audience with a proven willingness to buy it, you can explore other options like ways to store your own inventory. For a beginner, though, sometimes it’s nice to just test the waters without the danger of losing money on it.

What is the Best Way to Money With TikTok?

Many people think that the best way to make money on TikTok is to, well, just make TikToks. And while that's a core way for you to grow your audience (and thus make more money), it's likely not going to become your biggest moneymaker—at least not for a while.

The best way to make money with TikTok on a consistent basis, while also engaging with your fans, is to set up a paid community. This means making a dedicated community space on a platform like Whop, Discord, or Telegram, and then charging for access to it. The best thing about a paid community is that alongside it, you can also sell other digital products, such as ebooks, downloadables, or one-on-one calls.

You know all about building an audience, and your audience is always looking for more ways to interact with you and with each other. Because of that, selling access to a paid community on Whop is the best way to indirectly make money through TikTok.

With a paid community, you're not just getting money for your time—your viewers will become so much more engaged with you as a creator, and thus, more likely to spend money on your other sources of revenue. It's a fantastic way to drive up fan engagement while earning some of those sweet, sweet dollars, be it through a one-time payment or a subscription.

How Much Do the Biggest Influencers on TikTok Earn?

We've all dreamed of those TikTok-made riches, but how big exactly are we talking?

Unfortunately, most of the highest-paid TikTok stars don't divulge exactly how much they earn, and if they do, then they usually don't give any info on where that money came from.

For example, it's been reported that one of the largest creators—Charli D’Amelio—made 17.5 million dollars in 2023. However, this includes not just TikTok-specific revenue, but also money from sponsored content on TikTok and outside of it. Let's not forget event appearances. Check out our TikTok statistics to learn more.

Generally, the creators that are considered “TikTok Royalty” make as much as eight figures per year. Pretty hard to wrap your head around, huh?

Most TikTokers live a harsher reality, though, as the vast majority of creators bring in under $15,000. The key to earning more is diversifying, which is what we'll talk about below.

TikTok Pay FAQs

How much can you make on TikTok?

While the largest creators like Charlie D’Amelio are making almost $18 million, even nano creators (creators with under 10,000 followers) can still pull in up to $25 a post. The potential for how much you can make on TikTok comes down partially to how much work you’re willing to put into TikTok, and partially to luck. Having videos go viral certainly gives your bank account a nice boost, but with consistent well-performing videos, you can still earn decent side money.

How do you get paid through TikTok?

There is no one single way to get paid through TikTok. You can take advantage of the programs that TikTok offers creators, like the option to make a Series or the Creator Rewards Program. You can also earn revenue with affiliate marketing and sponsorships, or by building a community willing to buy your own merch from you. One of the best ways to engage with fans and earn money is to create a paid community on Whop.

How much do you get paid for a million TikTok views?

A million views on TikTok can make the video’s creator between $20 and $40, depending on a variety of factors. Among other things, you must already be in the Creator Rewards Program and the video must be advertiser-friendly and meet monetization standards.

Does TikTok pay for likes?

TikTok does not pay for likes, but it's in your best interest to still encourage viewers to like the video. Likes help the algorithm know that a video is catching on and being well received, which will put it in front of more (paying) viewers' eyes. Likes are the sign of a strong community!
