Adding a link to your social media profile might seem like a no-brainer. However, it’s easier said than done – especially on TikTok.

While Instagram allows you to add links from your Stories, as well as in your bio, figuring out how to put a link in your TikTok bio is a little trickier.

With over 1.5 billion users on TikTok, making your TikTok account stand out is more important than ever. In this guide, we'll take you through the steps to add a TikTok bio link, help you overcome any issues that might arise, and offer some top tips for maximum monetization.

Whether you're flying solo running your business or have a whole team behind you, your followers need to know where to buy from you. Where you choose to send your followers is up to you. It could be straight to a landing page, newsletter sign up or even a physical product.

If followers like what they see on your TikTok, they're gonna want to know where to go to see more. So when it comes to converting your fans into customers, your link in bio is essential.

For content creators, your bio link is equally as important. It could be that you want to send your TikTok followers to your other social media accounts to build your following elsewhere. The opportunities are quite frankly, endless.

Monetizing your TikTok already, or hoping to in future? Remember, potential brand partnerships are going to want to see your existing work. Optimizing your bio link will set you up for success, both by directing followers and showing brands what you can do.

If you don't have a website of your own, it's no big deal. But it goes without saying that you need to be making the most of the bio link feature.

Many social media content creators and businesses look to add multiple links to their social media accounts via some handy link tools.

Don't worry, we're going to talk about what to use for your TikTok bio link a little later on.

Adding a link in bio sounds pretty straightforward, but there are a few things you need to do first. We've covered the process below in our step-by-step guide.

Switch to a TikTok business account

First things first, you're going to need a TikTok Business Account. In order to make the switch, head to your profile page and tap the hamburger menu (the three little lines) in the top right-hand corner.

From here > Settings and Privacy. Once you're on that screen, tap account and then Switch to Business Account.

You'll then be taken through a short introduction on the features of a business account. Make sure you choose the right category and you're ready to go.

In the same way you'd edit your name, username and bio text, head to 'Edit Profile' to add your website link. Scroll down to 'Website' and simply drop your clickable link in the website field.

Got under 1,000 followers? It's no big deal, but you will need to register your business. TikTok will likely prompt you here as you go to add your bio link.

The process to register your business with TikTok is quite straightforward. You'll need the following information handy:

  • Legal business name.
  • Business address.
  • Business license ID (depending on your region).

Before you get frustrated, it's worth noting that the registered business option is only available in certain countries, but TikTok does plan to add more soon.

Much like trying to monetize your YouTube channel, there are a few restrictions when it comes to your TikTok bio link. Thankfully, there are just three boxes you need to tick:

  • Be a TikTok business account.
  • Have more than 1,000 followers.
  • Proof of business registration (if you have under 1,000 followers).

Don't stress if you're not a registered business with under 1,000 followers! You'll be pleased to hear there are still options yet.

If you've followed the steps above on how to put a link in your TikTok bio and you've hit a dead end, there are a few potential reasons for this. Let's take a closer look.

You don’t meet the 1,000 follower criteria

If you're under the 1,000 threshold and unable to prove that you have a registered business, this could be holding you back. Thankfully, there is a slight workaround that you can implement until you hit that 1k mark.

While it's not quite a clickable link, it's a potential option until you hit the criteria. Simply add your link to your bio description field. If it's concise (and memorable) enough, your TikTok followers will be able to find you easily by entering it into their browser.

To add a link to your bio, tap 'Edit Profile' and then scroll down to the 'Bio' section. Pop your link in there and tap save.

You’re not on a mobile device

Although the majority of us use TikTok on mobile, if you're trying to add clickable links to your bio on desktop this could be where you're going wrong.

To start optimizing your TikTok bio link, make sure you're on the TikTok app, not on your computer.

You’re still using a personal account

By default, every TikTok account is set up as a personal account. In order to take advantage of the TikTok bio link, you'll need to switch manually to a Business Account.

Simply follow the step-by-step guide above and switch your TikTok account over, but don't forget to choose a suitable category.

This is where most people go wrong, so here's a little reminder on where to go to double check you've made the switch:

  • Go to your profile page.
  • Tap the hamburger icon in the top right-hand corner.
  • Choose Settings and Privacy.
  • Tap Account.
  • Still see 'Switch to Business Account'? You need to tap here if so!

Your TikTok bio is the shop window for your potential customers (aka your followers).

But as well as looking great, it's super important to send traffic to the right places — so you've got to make those links count.

Whether you're trying to drive traffic to your website, your other social media accounts or to an affiliate link, your link in bio should deliver a mini clickable website.

While it's tempting to fill your link in bio page with a bunch of links to every platform imaginable, try to keep it simple.

Consider what's important to you and your followers. Here are a few places you might want to highlight:

  • Your most recent content.
  • Your website link or blog page.
  • Any publicity or news stories.
  • Other social media platforms.
  • Online store or product page.

Think of it this way... let's say you're a business selling delicious baked goods, your followers are going to focus on where to make a purchase.

Sure, sending your followers to your newsletter is beneficial, but don't get hung up on trying to offer your TikTok followers too many options.

2. Work out your goals

Once you know what you're trying to achieve, working out your most important links is a breeze.

  • 💰 Looking to make sales? Direct traffic to your online store.
  • 🙌 Trying to grow your followers? Put the focus on your other social media platform accounts.
  • 🤳 Want to increase brand awareness? Point followers towards press mentions.
  • 👩‍💻 Think your website traffic could do with a boost? Send followers towards your website or highlight your blog.

3. Don’t forget to offer value

Your TikTok bio really is your space to make a great impression. Much like your own website, take advantage of this link space to hook in new visitors.

Look for ways you can offer value to your TikTok followers, such as:

  • Highlighting competitions and giveaways.
  • Offering exclusive discounts for those buying through your link in bio.
  • Including a snappy, enticing introduction to you or your brand.

Since your link will have pride of place in your TikTok bio, it needs to be short and snappy. Some link in bio tools offer you the opportunity to customize your URL for this very reason.

This is even more important if you don't meet the requirements for a clickable link in your TikTok bio — especially if your followers have to manually search for you.

Now you know how to put a link in your TikTok bio, why not bring attention to it? Try adding an emoji to your bio to highlight your landing page.

You can even add a CTA if you feel like it needs an extra nudge.

If you have your own website, it's pretty easy to set up your own 'links' page. However, it can often be a fiddle to update frequently.

Thankfully there are a bunch of simple-to-setup link in bio tools available, so you can optimize your TikTok bio link in no time.
