Discord Nitro is the main source of Discord's commercial income. When you join a Discord server, there’s a high chance you’re going to stumble on users who have fancy profiles, animated profile pictures, animated emojis, and more - they’re the Nitro Users.

When you subscribe to Discord Nitro, you get a Nitro Subscriber badge. All Nitro users have these badges, but Discord just started rolling out new tier variations of them, and hey, like all Discord users, we love badges, too.

In this guide, we’re going to help you get up to date with the latest changes on Nitro badges so you can know which badge means what and how you can get them.

What is a Nitro Badge, and How Can You Get One?

A Nitro Badge is a little icon that appears on your Discord profile so you can showcase that you have Discord Nitro. Of course, the badge isn’t the only benefit of Discord Nitro, but before we get into that, you have to know that there are two versions of Nitro: Nitro Basic and Nitro.

As its name suggests, Nitro Basic is a tuned-down version of Discord Nitro, therefore it’s cheaper. There are a lot of things that Nitro users can do that regular users can’t, for example:

  • Use custom server emojis anywhere on Discord
  • Use super reactions
  • Create custom server profiles
  • Set animated profile pictures and banners
  • HD streaming
  • and more…

Nitro Basic users can use super reactions, custom emojis anywhere, and get a Nitro badge. But to get HD streaming, animated profiles, and more, you must be a full Discord Nitro subscriber. The price of a Nitro subscription, no matter the tier, is based on which country you live in and whether Discord provides local pricing there or not. The default prices of Nitro subscriptions are:

  • Nitro Basic: $2.99 monthly or $29.99 annually
  • Nitro: $9.99 monthly or $99.99 annually

  • Did you know?
Discord offers local pricing in 15 countries, but the local pricing doesn’t apply to Nitro gifting.

New Nitro Badge Tiers Explained

All right, now that we’ve cleared up what Nitro and its badges are, let’s get to the exciting news: new Nitro badge variants. Discord started rolling out these new badge variants in September 2024, and they look super cool. The new Discord Nitro badges change based on how long you’ve been a Nitro subscriber. There are eight variants of the new Nitro badge. These variants don’t change the overall shape design of the Nitro badge but do give it some new textures:

As you can see in the image above, there are eight unique Nitro badge variants now ranging from Bronze to Fire. When you subscribe to Discord Nitro, you’ll get the regular Nitro badge with no texturing, and once you hit your 1st month, your badge will turn into Bronze.

Badge Variant Subscription Period Requirement
Bronze 1 month
Silver 3 months
Gold 6 months
Platinum 1 year
Diamond 2 years
Emerald 3 years
Ruby 5 years
Fire 6 years
