When is the English Premier League?

The English Premier League is an annual competition involving the 20 best teams in English professional soccer. The season usually runs between early August and late May. We’ve seen a two-week-long winter break in the past, but that idea was scrapped for this term in favor of a longer rest during the summer months. An extended summer break is aimed at helping players involved in the top international tournaments, including the European Championships and the World Cup.

Games are traditionally played at 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays, but an increase in matches broadcast live on television shook things up. Today, Premier League fixtures go ahead most days of the week during the season, including Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. You’ll often see games on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, too.

Fans can attend EPL ties by purchasing tickets through official club channels or watching games broadcast live on television. A growing number of fixtures are also available on the best live-streaming apps, including Amazon Prime and those available at the leading online sports gambling apps.

How English Premier League (EPL) Games Work

Let’s cover the basics for new soccer fans.

A typical English Premier League season consists of 380 games. The top division boasts 20 teams that play each other twice, once at their home stadium and again later in the season at the arena of their opponents, creating a 38-game campaign.

In each Premier League fixture, the teams play for points. The winner of a game is awarded three points. If a match ends in a draw, both sides receive one point each. A losing team gets no points. Fixtures consist of two halves of 45 minutes each, plus any time added on for stoppages. The winner of a game is the team with the most goals when the full-time whistle sounds to end the play.

EPL games are fast-paced, unpredictable, and great fun to follow. Every weekend, an exciting mix of high-scoring matches, tense draws, and upset results keeps fans on the edge of their seats. Late drama is common, including last-minute winners or equalizers to change the result.

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology helps officials make the right decision as often as possible. Although VAR improves accuracy, making decisions can take several minutes, and we’ve seen some games last for over 100 minutes due to stoppages in play.

How do you bet on the Premier League using your mobile or laptop? Well, I’ll explain all in this section of my article. I’ve tried to keep everything as simple and easy to follow as possible, ensuring soccer fans and bettors can enjoy gambling, regardless of their experience. Follow the steps below to wager quickly and securely while boosting your chances of making a profit from the games.

The steps are the same regardless of the bookmaker you use, but I will call on the Betfred website for my examples.

Betfred

1. Decide on a sportsbook

Your first step is to decide on a bookmaker. There are many available, but some are better suited to you than others. Browse the market, analyze the websites and apps, check the promotions, compare the odds, and decide on the best. Remember, the more research you do, the more likely you are to find the right bookie first time.

You can join several sportsbooks if you wish, collecting the welcome bonuses and increasing your chances of getting the market’s best price each time you wager. The leading apps offer all new players a promotion, and the best include free bets, enhanced odds, cashback, profit boosts, and extra places each way.

2. Register an account

When you’ve found the bookmaker that’s right for you, it’s time to register an account. You can browse the websites and apps to find the best but to gamble on Premier League soccer and other sports, you must hold an account. Thankfully, that takes just a few minutes to complete, and I’ll guide you through the steps now. But please get organized, and don’t leave things to the last minute; you may miss kick-off.

Visit the homepage of your chosen sportsbook and click the Join button at the top of the screen to move to the registration form. Add your details to the form, including your name, date of birth, postal address, and email address.

Setting up an account

Create a username and password that’s memorable to you but secure. You’ll need this information each time you want to access your account. Add the promo code if required, deposit $10 or more, and gamble on a qualifying sportsbook market.

When your first bet results, the marketing team will drop the welcome bonus free bet or other offer into your account balance. You can then use the bet credits to wager on Premier League fixtures and markets.

Welcome to Betfred

You must verify your account before making your first withdrawal. To do that, use your smartphone to take a snap of your photo ID and email it to the customer care team. The team will check that the details on your ID match your betting account and verify you.

3. Choose a betting strategy

Every good gambler, whether betting on the English Premier League or the National Football League, needs a solid gambling strategy. Bettors adopt many strategies to increase their chances of winning and track their gambling spending.

Picking games

You can study the stats, back your favorite teams and players, go with form, pick the team that’s higher in the league, or something else entirely. One of the most popular betting strategies for soccer is to follow professional tipsters, and we’ll discuss that in a bit more detail shortly. There’s no guaranteed way to beat the bookies, but the harder you work, the luckier you become.

4. Place your bet and wait for the results

When you’ve found your bookmaker, opened a betting account, and picked the best strategy, it’s time to gamble. Again, betting on the Premier League is quick, easy and secure.

Access your account by entering your username and password. Click on the soccer and then the Premier League tab. Select the fixture that interests you the most and click the odds attached to your chosen market and selection. The pick will appear in your bet slip.

Bet slip

Input a stake, check the cost of the bet, and confirm. A cash-out amount will appear on your bet slip, and you can track the offer while the match is live. When the game is over, you can check the results and how your bet performed in the ‘My Account’ section of the homepage. If you land a winner, returns are quickly added to your betting account balance.

It’s time to highlight some of the most popular and best betting markets available on English Premier League fixtures. Most bookies offer a long list of pre-match and in-game betting options, and knowing which to choose can be confusing. Play any of the markets listed in this section of my EPL betting article to enjoy the game.

Premier League Moneyline

We’ll start with the most popular and basic way to gamble on games: the Premier League moneyline. All you’re doing here is predicting the result and placing your stake on the home team, the draw, or the away team for the full-time result. It doesn’t matter how your pick wins, the number of goals, or who scores them. If you correctly predict the final result, you’ll bank a profit.

Premier League Moneyline

Using the above example, we’re backing Arsenal to beat Leicester City on the moneyline at odds of -550. Those odds mean you’d need to bet $550 to win $100, but you can set any stake you like. If Arsenal wins the game, you win your bet and land the profits. If it’s a draw or Leicester City wins the game, you lose your bet.

Premier League Three-Way Handicap

The handicap market is great if you’re betting on a fixture with a strong favorite. The traders working at your sportsbook will decide the handicap, usually giving the favorite a one-goal deficit with their opponents receiving a one-goal start. You can also back the draw in the three-way handicap.

Handicap

Above, you’ll see we’re backing Arsenal -1 on the handicap at odds of -200. That means our team must beat Leicester by two or more goals.

If you make this bet and the final score is Arsenal 2-0 Leicester, your bet is a winner. If Arsenal wins by one goal, such as Arsenal 1-0 Leicester, your bet is a loser as the handicap result would be a draw due to Leicester’s goal advantage. If Leicester wins the game by any margin, your bet loses.

Premier League Totals

The Premier League totals allow you to remove the requirement to select the winning team, instead predicting how many goals the game will produce. It’s a great market in competitive games where you’re struggling to choose a side.

Premier League Totals

With the above bet, you’re backing Arsenal vs. Leicester to produce over 2.5 goals. The 0.5 element removes the draw. Suppose you bet over 2.5 goals, and the game finishes Arsenal 2-1 Leicester. Your bet is a winner, as the teams have produced three goals combined. If the result is Arsenal 2-0 Leicester, your bet is a loser as the match ends with fewer than 2.5 goals.

If you expect lots of goals in a Premier League fixture, it’s worth playing the over option in the totals. If you expect a tense, low-scoring game, you should go under in the totals.

Premier League Futures

The Premier League futures market is a different bet. With this play, you are gambling on a team’s performance over the course of a season rather than in a game. The futures markets give you a long-term interest lasting several months. You can bet on a team to win the league, finish in the top four, be relegated, or finish bottom.

Premier League Futures

When placing the above bet, you’re gambling on Arsenal to win the Premier League title. If they finish in pole position at the end of the 38-game season, you land the profits. If any team other than Arsenal wins, you lose your bet and stake.

Premier League Parlay

Parlays are the most interesting way to bet on the Premier League, as they offer a chance to win big off a small stake. You can place parlays on most sports and competitions, but the great odds available on the EPL ensure this approach is popular every weekend in the top-tier of English soccer.

Premier League Parlay

A parlay is a bet with more than one selection, but it’s off one stake, so all picks must win before your bet can land the returns. In the example above, you’re backing Man City, Arsenal, and West Ham to win. If all three do as expected, your bet is a winner. But if just one team in your parlay fails to win, the entire bet is a loser.

Parlays are more difficult to land than singles, but the rewards are often much higher. Parlays are also known as accumulators, as the returns accumulate with each winning selection. The more picks in your parlay, the higher the returns. It’s a real value-for-money bet as you can spread your interest out across a day or weekend, aiming for a bumper prize off a modest stake.

Premier League Prop Bets

Prop bets are popular in every game during a Premier League season as they allow you to wager on almost every aspect of a match. You’d avoid predicting the match-winner and go for an exciting special. The most popular Premier League prop bets include the correct score, the first player to score, the score at half-time, both teams to score, and a player to be sent off. Let’s look at an example.

Premier League Prop Bets

Above, we’re gambling on Arsenal attacker Kai Havertz to score a goal at any point during the game. It doesn’t matter when the score is or even the match result. If Havertz finds the net, your bet wins. You can also see above that odds are available on the players to score the first or last goal of the game.

Premier League Double Chance

Another interesting option is the Premier League double chance market as it – as the name suggests – doubles your chances of landing a winning bet. With the double chance market, you’ll have your stake in two of the three possible outcomes in the match result, usually your chosen team and the draw. It’s a clever way of eliminating the draw.

Premier League Double Chance

In this example, your stake is riding on the game, ending in a draw or a win for Leicester City. If either of those results land, your bet’s a winner. But if Arsenal wins, your bet loses. You now have a two-in-three chance of making a profit on the result rather than the one-in-three offered by the moneyline market. The odds on the double-chance market are smaller than the moneyline as the bet covers the draw.

Premier League Spread

You won’t see spread betting available in Premier League soccer as much as in the NFL or NBA, but it is there. The spread in soccer is the same as the handicap, and you’re betting on a team to win the game and cover the deficit. We looked at -1 goal in the handicap market; let’s now look at the spread.

Premier League Spread

When betting on the spread, you can move the line to suit a game and the odds you’re after. Budge it from -1 to -2, -3, or even -4 goals. The higher you go, the better the odds available on this bet. You may also see the spread as Arsenal -1.5 and Leicester +1.5 which eliminates the draw as a possibility.

If you bet on Arsenal -1.5 on the spread and the result is Arsenal 2-0 Leicester, your bet is a winner as they covered the spread, beating it by 0.5. If the result is Arsenal 1-0 Leicester, your bet loses despite your team winning because the one-goal winning margin falls short of the predicted 1.5 goals spread.

How to Find the Best EPL Bets

As with many major sports and competitions, including the NFL, NBA, and MLB, finding good English Premier League bets can be challenging. There are so many conflicting opinions out there. Who do you trust?

You could always leave it to luck and pick teams at random, but that approach rarely leads to a profit. You could also spend hours digging through the various EPL stats, trends, league standings, head-to-head results, injury news, and other important information. Let’s face it: most of us don’t have time to play sports betting detective.
