If you’re using whop, you know your whop runs on apps. Apps are what power the experience and make your offer feel complete.
The apps that you add to your whop shape your platform experience.
Using Whop apps, your whop can become anything from an online course platform, to a digital recipe bank, to a sports betting community.
Adding apps to a whop is easy and free, and you can do it with just a few clicks.
In this guide, we’ll quickly recap what a whop is, explore how Whop apps work, and show you how to add or remove them from your own whop.

What is a whop?

A whop can simply be explained as an “internet hub”.
Think of your favourite digital platforms — Instagram, Discord, Coursera, Reddit. Each one has standout features: Discord’s text channels, Coursera’s structured courses, Reddit’s community threads. But because each platform is built for a specific purpose, they’re not always a perfect fit for your business.
That’s where Whop comes in.
Now imagine those platform features as modular building blocks: Discord’s powerful text channels, Coursera’s robust course delivery — each one designed for a specific use.
It would be great to merge the two platforms and their building blocks, wouldn’t it?
Well, you can do that with a whop.
Want to build a course platform with chat rooms, forums, livestreams, and even embedded websites? That’s a whop.
We’ve been referring to these features as “modules” or “building blocks.” On Whop, they’re called apps. Each app adds specific functionality, and you can mix and match them to build exactly what you need.
Once you've added your apps, you can set up pricing tiers so people can purchase access to your whop. Or keep it free — it’s up to you.
The result? A custom online hub, packed with features you choose, that people can join and pay for.

Now let’s dive deeper into what Whop apps actually do.
What are Whop apps?
As we mentioned, a whop is made of apps. There are dozens of Whop apps designed to help you build and scale your community or business and new ones are being developer every day both by the Whop team and independent developers.
Take the Chat app, for example: it's a real-time chat room where members can talk, share ideas, and connect.
There’s also:
- Events: Organise virtual or in-person events for your members
- Guess The Score: Run score-prediction games and competitions
- Content Rewards: Encourage user-generated content (UGC) to promote your brand
We’re just scratching the surface of Whop apps with these examples. There are many more apps that you can use, all for free.
You can even add the same app multiple times to the same whop, or across different whops within your organisation. That means multiple chat rooms, courses, forums, link directories, embedded websites — even web apps gated by OAuth login.
Best apps on Whop
Some of the most popular apps on Whop are:
- Course: With this app you can create comprehensive courses within your whop. It supports classic video lessons, text pages, files, graded and non-graded quizzes, and more.
- Content Rewards: Create a performance-based UGC content reward. Outline what you want, set your budget, and watch your brand get shared all over social media (Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, or YouTube.)
- Chat: Create a chat room within your whop. You can decide who can chat and who can react, as well as the username colors, banned words, and more.
- Files: Create a file directory within your whop, allowing you to easily share files with the members of your whop.
- Content: This app can simply be explained as an online PDF. You can use powerful formatting to create text pages for your members to see.
Now that you know what apps are, let's take a look at how you can add apps to a whop.
Adding apps to a whop
Before you can add apps, you must have a whop. If you don’t already have one, take a look at our How to create your own whop guide to get started.
If you got your whop ready to go, let’s move on to adding apps to it, starting with the desktop flow.
Adding apps to a whop on desktop
Apps on Whop are organised by category. For instance, the Chat app lives under the Chat category, the Course app falls under Learn, and Website Embed appears under Tools. You can add apps to your whop with just two clicks.
To show you how it works, we’re going to add the Chat app to our whop.
Here’s how to do it, step by step:
- Click the Add app button at the top left of your whop. This is going to take you to the App Store.
- In the app store, find the app you want to add and click its Add button. This is going to instantly add the app to your whop.
Once you add an app to your whop, you can access its settings using the settings button (cogwheel icon).
After clicking the Edit app settings button, you're going to see the App settings popup on your screen.

The App settings popup has nine settings:
- App icon: You can change the app's icon to an emoji or a custom image by clicking on the edit icon button at the top left of the popup.
- Name: You can change the app's name to fit its intention. For example, if you're going to use a Chat app for networking purposes, you might want to name it "Networking Chat."
- Description: Apps don't have descriptions by default. By adding a description to an app, you can change how it looks on your store page. The description field has a character limit of 90.
- Expiration: You can set an expiration date for an app using the date selector under the Expiration field. Once an app expires, your members won't be able to access it.

- Visibility: The best practice in some apps, like Course and Document, is adding content to it before making it visible to your members. If you select Draft (hidden) in the visibility popup while adding the app to your whop, you can change this setting later on by selecting the Visible option in this field.
Or, if you want to monetize that specific app within your whop, you can select the Locked option, which will display two options: Free and Paid (one-time).
Selecting the Free option will allow you to add a waitlist to the app, allowing all of your members to apply before they're able to use the app.
Selecting the Paid (one-time) option, on the other hand, will allow you to set a price for the app and upsell it after checkout, before checkout, or inside your whop.
To learn more about the upsell feature, check out our How to use the new upsell feature on Whop guide.

- Screenshot protection: By disabling the Allow users to take screenshots on iOS option under this section, you can prevent your members from taking screenshots when viewing the app.
- Delete app: Let's say you want to remove a duplicate app or an app doesn't fit the idea you had when you created your whop.
By clicking the red Delete button in this section, you can remove them from your whop. Keep in mind that once you confirm the deletion, you won't be able to revert this action.

How to remove an app from a whop on desktop
As you might've seen in the settings of an app, the popup also has the Delete button. Clicking on it with display the Delete app confirmation window, and clicking the Delete app button there is going to permanently remove the app from your whop.
Keep in mind that this action is irreversible.

Adding apps to a whop on mobile
Adding apps to a whop on the Whop mobile app follows the same principles.
First, let's press the on a category we want to add an app in. As an example, we're going to press on the Chat category.
There, you'll see the Add chat button at the bottom right (or Add app if the category supports multiple apps) — pressing on it will display the Add new app popup and prompt you to give a name to the app, set its visibility, and expiry.
Once you're done with the initial adjustments, press the Create button at the top right to add the app to your whop.

After adding the app to your whop, you'll be able to see it listed in the category. By pressing on the App settings button (cogwheel icon) next to the app, you can see its settings like app icon, name, description, visibility, and more.

How to remove an app from a whop on mobile
If you ever want to remove an app for any reason, you can do it via the settings of the app.
Once you're in the settings of an app, you'll see the Delete app button at the bottom of the settings. Pressing on it will display a confirmation message asking if you're sure.
Confirming it by pressing the Delete button in the confirmation popup will remove the app from your whop with all of its content.
Keep in mind that this action is irreversible.
